Fans react as club extends Defender's contract till 2022.

Manchester United has reported given Defender, Chris Smalling, a new contract following his excellent performance and his passion for the club.

The defender has been faced with mixed atmosphere at the Old Trafford Stadium as he had saved United from some unpleasant moments and has also contributed to the laxity of the Premier league giants.

With the United board refusal to sign a defender during the last summer transfer window, with Harry Maguire, a primary target of the Old Trafford faithful but the refusal to pay such an exorbitant amount of money for a defender of his calibre.

With the faith the club has in the England defender, he has given a three year contract, that will see him stay at the club till 2022.

After signing the three year contract, Smalling said "I am delighted to continue the my journey with Manchester United. It is an honour to play for this club and I want to take the opportunity to thank all staff associated with it over the last 9 seasons, my team   mates past and present, and the fans who continue to show support for the squad game in game out.

"While this a very proud day for me and my family, focus is very much on tomorrow and on the busy schedule of games over the festive period. Roll on super Sunday."

He finally said "It's a great feeling that the manager and the club back me, I am looking forward to repaying them !"

Smalling is expected to feature in today's clash with Arch rivals, Liverpool, at the Anfield Stadium.
