It was a memorable evening for the Red side of Manchester after the recent demise of former manager, Jose Mourinho, as united showed what they are capable of doing, as they blown Cardiff away in front of their roaring fans.
Cardiff used a 4-1-4-1 formation and united, 4-3-3 formation with Lingard, Rashford and Martial leading the deadly frontline.
United broke the deadlock at the 4th minute, after Pogba was fouled at few yards to the host's net. Rashford scored a brilliant free kick that left the host's goalkeeper helpless in front of goal.
United looked confident on the ball, as the passes made were accurate and fantastic. Defender, Jones made a great clearance from Murphy's low cross inside United's box.
Luke Shaw contested in air for nodding with Cardiff striker, Paterson, which led to the gushing out of blood from Paterson's head. The visitor's ball recoveries were very pleasant and perfect for the sight as there was full concentration in the squad.
A beautiful low cross from winger, Martial, to Rashford was also cleared in the host's box. United's performance seemed to be off the hook as they perfectly bossed Cardiff in what is called an easy ride.
The visitor's spirit was on a high note as great stability was evidently felt in the heart of midfield as Herrera bossed the middle of the park.
At the 29th minutes, United had the second goal from midfielder, Ander Herrera, as he launched a deflected missile after a quintessential low cross from former united outcast, Paul Pogba.
The goalkeeper dived but was helpless as he could not stop the missile that was roofed towards the top left of the host's net.
It was clearly seen in Pogba, that he was exited for the first time after some weekends back.
Defender, Luke Shaw became the first player to enter the referee's book after a bad tackle on Cardiff forward, Murphy.
United enjoyed the lion share if the possession as they made numerous constructive passes with high confidence.
At 37th minute, Cardiff had a controversial penalty awarded to them, as a result reported Rashford hand ball in the box.
Camarrasa took the spot kick and scored the visitor's first goal of the encounter. His penalty will be his first after 133 games for the club.
To put the icing on the first half cake, Martial scored his first goal and United's third of the game from a perfect set up among trio, Pogba, Lingard, and the scorer, Martial.
The goal was a quintessential high level of technicality after which the ball hit the woodwork and enter the net.
The sign of superiority was clearly visible to the eyes and audible to ears, as the pressure was too cumbersome for Cardiff, they really looked confused and lost.
During the second half, Rashford almost made it four for United, following a sublime pass from Martial was blocked.
At the 55th minute, Lingard drove pass Cardiff players and entered the visitor's box before he was hauled down by Defender, Bamba. United was awarded the penalty and it was scored, as Lingard sent the goalkeeper a wrong direction.
De Gea had his first save of the game at 64th minutes from Murphy with a brilliantly curled ball directed towards the united box.
Paul Pogba struck a powerful thunderbolt from the left side but was quickly and superbly saved by the keeper.
Zohore and Bamba almost scored but they were quite unfortunate as they were blocked on the two occasions.
Cunningham was finally booked for a tackle on Rashford and he was immediately substituted for summer signing, Fred.
Pogba gave the third assist of the game for Lingard as he scored his second and United's fifth goal to see off Cardiff City.
The game ended with unquantifiable and immeasurable smiles on the faces of the players as Pogba was seen chatting Martial up after the game.
No doubt, Solskjaer is a true disciple of the Legendary manager, Sir Alex Ferguson.
