The Academic Staff Union of University ASUU, has hereby issued this statement to inform the General public and by extension students of Nigerian universities that "the union has not reached any agreement with the Federal Government.
Prof Ogunyemi insists that “It was just yesterday (Tuesday) that the Federal Ministry of Education sent the proposal to us without waiting for feedback before going to the public that we have reached an agreement. The Union does not operate in that manner.
It was recently confirmed by the Hon. Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, that the Federal Government has offered #20 billion to the Union but the Union has responded saying, " So far on government proposal, we have not taken a decision. And our strike is still ongoing."
It was also confirmed that some State Universities have started resuming despite the incessant strike.
We hope the two parties sit and reach consensus as regards these strike saga, so that Universities can resume and commence their academic work.
