The Governor of Ondo state, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, has made it known to the public that the Local Government election in the state on December 1, 2018.
The Governor has immediately dissolved the council bosses and councilors based on the fact that they were inappropriately elected into the office by the immediate past Governor, Olusegun Mimiko.
The just dissolved council bosses and councilors were elected in the absence of the incumbent political part, All Progressive Congress, after which the election was declared in favour of the then ruling Party, People Democratic Party.
The election will be conducted in the 18 Local Government in Ondo state.
The ODIEC chairman, Yomi Dinakin made it known on Wednesday at the commission office in the state capital, Akure.
Yomi said"They were preparing to conduct a smooth Local Council poll."
Prof. Dinakin explained that Section 30 of the Electoral Act, 2010 (as amended) and Schedule 4 Paragraph 1 of Local Government, Establishment and Administration Law (Cap 87) Laws of Ondo State empowers the body to conduct the election.
He said the sensitization of the electorate, who will participate in the election, will be done with the collaboration of National Orientation Agency,NOA.
He also promised to conduct a free and transparent election.
The ODIEC boss also say the ruling party, All Progressive Party, will not have any influence in the coming election.
"The commission will be totally independent; everybody will participate in the election. We are not going to be guided by the government. All we need is for the government to release the funds to us.
"We will follow the time-table to the letter. We will follow the rules and regulations and we will conduct a credible local government election. We are not going to be tele-guided," he added.
