Arsenal Manager, Unai Emery, started the 2018/2019 Premier league campaign with a defeat to the defending Champions, Manchester City.
Arsenal's Emery used a 4-2-3-1 formation with a lone striker, Aubameyang and Manchester City used a 4-3-3 formation with new signing Mahrez, Raheem Sterling and City striker Sergio Aguero playing the forward three.
The game started very well as the home team ( Arsenal) showed their confidence being at home but it never lasted few minutes before the possession turned in favour of the visitors ( Manchester City).
Manchester City got the early lead through the England winger, Raheem Sterling after he drove Arsenal defenders to score an unattempted goal as the goalkeeper ( Cech) was obstructed in front of goal after an assist from Benjamin Mendy.
Arsenal left back, Maitland-Niles was substituted for free Agent, Stephan Lichtsteiner at 35th minute of the encounter. Sokratis Papastathopoulos was also booked for a hard tackle on City striker Sergio Aguero.
The second half came as two goals from Arsenal pair, Aubameyang and Mesut Ozil were ruled out as offside.
Arsenal seemed naive and were wasteful in their attempts to score as there was confusion between Lacazette and Ozil as City goalkeeper, Henderson's pass was hijacked by Ozil in front of goal.
FIFA World Cup third place winner, Kevin De bruyne was brought in for Mahrez, but was later booked for a hard tackle on Arsenal new signing Lucas Torreira.
The Gunners had several beautiful chances to do a comeback in the game after striker, Lacazette was introduced to the match but they soon slacked and Manchester City took charge again.
City sealed a comfortable victory as the second goal was scored by Bernardo Silva after a beautiful square play from Benjamin Mendy. They also enjoyed the lion share of the possession against the Gunners.
