Fred is set to undergo his medical with Manchester United after the Red Devils agreed an initial £43m fee with Shakhtar Donetsk for the midfielder.
Jose Mourinho is in the market for at least one central midfielder as Michael Carrick has retired while Marouane Fellaini looks increasing likely to leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the month.
Fred has emerged as a prime target in recent months as United has been the front-runners for his signature after Mancheter City failed to get a deal over the line during the January transfer window.
City have since turned their attention to Napoli star Jorginho which has cleared the way for United to snap-up Fred and TeamTalk reported late last week that Mourinho was urging his bosses to get a deal wrapped-up quickly.
It seems the hierarchy have listened as the Daily Mail claim United have now agreed a deal with Shakhtar Donetsk that will see them pay an initial £43m with the fee potentially rising to £52.2m with various add ons.
The newspaper says Fred is now expected to undergo his medical over the coming days before being unveiled as United’s first major signing of the summer ahead of the World Cup finals.
The 25-year-old is in the Brazil squad for Russia 2018 and is due to play in a friendly at Anfield on Tuesday night so the midfielder could undergo his medical early next week while he’s in the north-west of England.
