Five reasons we have learnt from the super untimely exit from Fifa 2018 world cup

It is no news  that the Super eagles  have been untimely eliminated from the Russia Fifa 2018 world cup followed by a later super strike from an Argentina and  Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo at the 87th minute of the pressurized cracker between the Super eagles and Argentina late  yesterday in Russia. The unfortunate exit has been narrowed to some possible reasons. 1.) Lack of passion : The super eagles as a team lacked enthusiasm to play with passion for Nigeria. Only very few of the Nigerian players have the passion for their dear country. The player don't care about the outcome of the games they played most especially at the first group game against Croatia. 2.) Inferiority complex : This has always been the case for some African countries at a big stage competition like the Fifa world where they believe that beating a bigger (European) countries is not possible so they tend not to worry themselves playing the best they could and this has in turn led to "l

Joachim Low Germany crash out of Russia 2018 Fifa World Cup group stage

The World cup defending champions,Germany has been prematurely knocked out of the Fifa 2018 world group saw them being beaten by South Korea and Mexico in group F. This untimely exit  will be the first time since in 80years as the Germans were beaten 2-0 at Kazan by South Korea who had already been beaten by Mexico and Sweden. The German coach has never been eliminated from the world cup group stage as a coach since 12years. There was a sluggish display at the start of this year's world cup first two encounters with  Mexico and  Sweden which they lost and escaped with 3 points at a die minute respectively. Marco Reus and Timo Werner had to swap positions in a d bid to change the game positively but it was futile as Joshua Kimmich crosses were below standard. Kim Young-Gwon was left in acres of space to take a touch and finish high into the net during the six minutes of injury time. Having initially had it ruled out by the referee’s assistant, the VAR asked the referee to che

Tomorrow decides the fate of the 2017 Npower Applicants as President Buhari signs 2018 budget

At the early hours of today,Nigeria President, Muhammadu  Buhari signed 2018 budget which has been delayed at the National Assembly since last year November. The delay in the approval has in turn led to a hath in the progress of the Youth Empowerment Scheme (Npower) for 2017 Applicants, as this has led to doubts from the prospective beneficiaries as regards the Empowerment Scheme. But not quite long Npower representative Mr Afolabi Imoukhuede has scheduled tomorrow evening at 6pm for a live chat on Facebook. This chat  was planned towards resolving the backlog of salaries of 2016 beneficiaries and to decide the fate of the  2017 Applicants.

Panama world cup finals end with defeat as Lukaku scores double

It was an ecstatic encounter between Panama and Belgium as double and a goal from  Romelu Lukaku  and Mertens respectively earned Belgium a bright start at 2018 World Cup Finals. Dries Mertens opened the score sheet with a fascinating volley very after the first half break. Subsequently, a double from the Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku helped Belgium secure a deserved victory over the Panamanians. His (Lukaku) double was assisted by Manchester City midfield wizard Kelvin Debruyne and Chelsea main man Eden Hazard. It was an easy ride for the  Belgians as they enjoyed  the larger share in the possession and the Panamanians did not pose much threat, though they had few chances to score. Towards the end of the match, Thogan Hazard, Mousa Dembele and Chadli were introduced as substitutes.

Brilliant Lozano Destroys Sane-less Germany

It was an exciting afternoon at the FIFA World Cup 2018 during an encounter between the Confederation Cup winners (Germany) and Javier Hernandez' Mexico which ended in favour of the Mexicans. Despite the fact that the Germans enjoyed the lion share of the possession, they still found  themselves wanting at the back of the net. Thanks to the solid and matured performance of the Mexican defenders, they did everything possible to stop Joachim low Germany from sharing a point not to talk of winning the match. Mexico had several beautiful chances against the Germans which would have made their victory an emphatic one but wastefulness was the order of the day. Hirving Rodrigo Lozano had a splashy finish to down the Germans within the first half of the pulsating encounter. Germany failure to call up Manchester city wing wizard Sane has in turn led to lack of killer instinct from Germany. This FIFA World is really taking a new dimension because one enjoys the possession while

Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny freed from jail

Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny walked free on Thursday after spending 30 days in custody for staging an unsanctioned protest. Soon after his release Navalny said in an Instagram post that the jail where he was held had received a massive face-lift ahead of the World Cup, apparently in anticipation of arresting rowdy foreign fans. In a later live broadcast on YouTube, he apologised to the “great number of mass media that reported the claim.” “All of it, from the first word to the last, was a fabrication,” he said, laughing. “I apologise in front of everyone.” Navalny had said that the cells had their usual pit latrines replaced with flush toilets, that normally poor rations were replaced with rich menus offering ample choice complete with alcohol-free beer and various desserts and that huge TV sets were put in each cell. Navalny called a series of rallies in the Russian capital and other cities on 5 May, just before Putin’s inauguration for a new term. Demonstr

Parents of girl in 1987 death charged with murder in France

The parents of a 4-year-old girl found dead three decades ago have been handed preliminary charges for her murder, in a cold case resurrected by DNA testing, a French prosecutor said Thursday. The then-unidentified girl's body was found in a ditch along the A10 freeway close to the city of Blois in central France in August 1987. The girl, whose mutilated body had marks of long-term abuse, was known in France as the "little martyr of the A10." Her photo was circulated to authorities in 30 countries around the world. Blois prosecutor Frederic Chevallier said that a breakthrough has been possible in the case that baffled authorities for years "because of the evolution of science and DNA." The parents, who are both in their 60s, were identified and tracked by chance through their son's DNA, which was tested in an unrelated 2016 case and matched him as the dead girl's brother, Chevallier said. The parents were arrested by French authorities on T

Russian Orthodox Church hoping 'gift from God' tournament will help spread its traditional values

Outside the Church of Christ the Saviour, the white, golden-domed headquarters of the Russian Orthodox Church, the Fifa World Cup 2018 souvenirs being sold in kiosks offer clues about the mega-show about to unfold.  Inside the building, clerical leaders have developed their own plan for using the tournament to promote their vision of Russia’s conservative culture.  Last week, Patriarch Kirill announced the creation of a new “sports commission” within the Church. Addressing an audience that included the boxer Nikolai Valuev, he said the time had come to create a “permanent system” of interaction between the church and sports community.  “Sport offers a way to elevate man’s physical and spiritual culture, and it should be a tool for the Church,” the Russian Orthodox primate said. “The task of an athlete is the same as that of a monk; without self-control there can be no success.”  The task of an athlete is the same as that of a monk; without self-control ther

Heavy fighting on Yemen's west coast kills hundreds

Heavy fighting in Yemen between pro-government forces and Shiite rebels has killed more than 600 people on both sides in recent days, security officials said Monday. Government forces, backed by a Saudi-led coalition, have been advancing along the western coast in recent weeks as they battle the Iran-allied rebels, known as Houthis. The fighting has escalated as government forces close in on the Red Sea port of Hodeida, a vital lifeline through which most of Yemen's food and medicine enters. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to brief the media. Witnesses, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisals, said the fighting has forced dozens of families to leave their homes. U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said Monday that U.N. envoy Martin Griffiths was engaged in "intense negotiations," shuttling between Yemen's capital Sanaa, controlled by the Houthis, and Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirate

Nuclear talks with North Korea moving ‘more quickly than expected’: White House

The White House says US President Donald Trump will leave Singapore on Tuesday night, adding that nuclear talks with North Korea are moving “more quickly than expected.” Trump was scheduled to return to the United States on Wednesday, but will now leave immediately after meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on Tuesday, the White House said in a statement on Monday. “The discussions between the United States and North Korea are ongoing and have moved more quickly than expected,” the statement said. Trump will depart at 8 p.m. Singapore time, according to the statement. This is despite the fact that last week Trump said the summit could last “two [or] three” days “depending on what happens” in the meetings. Earlier on Monday, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo issued a stern warning ahead of the historic summit. He told reporters in Singapore that the United States will not lift economic sanctions against North Korea until Pyongyang fully eliminates its nuclear weapo

Donald Trump, Kim Jong-un meeting: Anything could go wrong

I n just a few hours US President Donald Trump will meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. Newshub presenter Tom McRae joined The AM Show on Tuesday from Singapore to discuss what we can expect. "We understand they will meet one-on-one only with their respective translators for at least 45 minutes," he told host Duncan Garner. "From there, all their advisors, all the senior diplomats come into the room and the discussions will widen - if they get to that point." The North Koreans are expected to ask for security guarantees, including a pledge that the US and South Korea will not invade, and also ask for economic aid. And senior US officials say at a minimum they would like the summit to serve as a start of a dialogue with North Korea. However once in the room, anything could happen - and anything could go wrong. "What happens from there is really up to Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un," McRae says "These two leaders are pretty unpr

‘Don’t expect too much’: Rodman plays down Kim-Trump breakthrough

Former US basketball star Dennis Rodman flew into Singapore late Monday ahead of at summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korea’s Kim Jong Un, playing down expectations of an immediate breakthrough at the historic meeting. Rodman, who has struck up an unlikely friendship with the basketball loving North Korean leader, arrived in the city-state some nine hours before Trump meets with Kim in a bid to negotiate an end to a decades-old nuclear stand-off. He said he expected the Trump-Kim summit to “go fairly well,” but added “people should not expect too much for the first time.” “I’m just happy to be a part of it,” he told reporters at Changi Airport. “I think that I brought awareness to a lot of things around the world and I think North Korea has given a lot of people the opportunity to do this conference now and I hope it’s a success. "Who knew this would have happened five to six years ago… It’s exciting to be a part of it.” Rodman, sporting a black t-

Stakes high for armed conflict if Trump-Kim summit fails: Experts

As US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un prepare to hold a historic summit, experts warn of an increased risk of armed conflict if diplomatic talks fail to produce a nuclear agreement. Trump and Kim are scheduled to meet on June 12 in Singapore, following a tumultuous 2017 that was marked by escalating tensions and threats of military action over North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs. While the summit is seen as a test for diplomacy that could end the standoff, the stakes are high if it does not lead to any progress on limiting the North's nuclear capabilities. "If the North Korea-U.S. summit fails to conclude in an agreement, war risks will increase, exceeding previous levels, because of another failure of diplomacy," Alison Evans, deputy head of Asia Pacific country risk at IHS Markit, told NBC News.  Experts say the talks could run into trouble because the US and North Korea hold different understandings of what it means for the

Kim and Trump on their way to Singapore for historic summit

President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un are on their way to Singapore for what is shaping up to be a historic summit between the leaders of two countries that have been sworn enemies for more than six decades. Kim Jong Un’s private plane, a 39-year-old Soviet-made Ilyushin 62, left Pyongyang’s international airport at about 10 a.m. local time Sunday morning, according to flight tracking data. That should put him in Singapore in the mid- to late afternoon.  This trip is the furthest the third-generation North Korean leader has traveled since he took power at the end of 2011, and it also has the highest stakes.  Kim has embarked on a flurry of diplomacy this year, holding two meetings with South Korean president Moon Jae-in and two with China’s Xi Jinping, leading to this first-ever summit between a North Korean leader and a sitting American president. After overseeing rapid advances in North Korea’s nuclear and missile technology last year, Kim now appears to be
